Mr Kheirelseid graduated from the University of Khartoum in Sudan in 2000 before relocating to Ireland for further surgical training. During his training, he received the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) scholarship for his PhD thesis at University of Galway. After completing his higher surgical training in General & Vascular Surgery in Ireland, he did a fellowship in peripheral intervention for occlusive arterial disease and diabetic foot management from King’s College Hospital, London. He was appointed as Consultant in Beaumont in 2017 and takes a special interest in ultra-distal bypasses for diabetic foot disease. He works tirelessly for his patients and is an inspiring mentor for the trainees rotating through the unit. He designed the first Beaumont Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Meeting to improve collaboration across the diverse team of healthcare professional involved in diabetic foot care in Ireland with the goal of improving outcomes for patients.

Dr Diarmuid Smith

Consultant in Endocrinology & Internal Medicine at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin

Dr Smith graduated from UCD in 1994. He completed his MD thesis in diabetes in King’s College London. He completed specialist training in Endocrinology and Diabetes in Ireland and was appointed to Beaumont Hospital as a Consultant Endocrinologist in 2005. From 2011-2023 he was the HSE National Clinical Lead for Diabetes and is the current chair of the RCPI national Clinical Advisory Group for diabetes. He has also published over 130 papers in peer reviewed journal on diabetes and endocrinology. He also was one of the doctors with the Dublin Senior Football team between 2015 and 2025.

Dr Eoghan de Barra

Consultant in Infectious Diseases & General Internal Medicine, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin

Dr de Barra received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin and proceeded to gain specialist training in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine in Ireland and South Africa. In 2011 he took a post as Research Fellow and Lecturer in the department of Tropical Medicine and International Health at the RCSI and conducted malaria vaccine research work in Dublin and at the University of Oxford, UK. 

In 2014 he took up a post at Imperial College NHS Trust, London as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine, where he was the clinical lead for the OPAT programme, a site lead for Neuro-Infection, a regional lead for TB including large numbers of MDR TB and led the Trust’s Ebola response, as well as directing and advising Infection Prevention and Control practitioners as part of an integrated Clinical Infection unit. He served as a supervisor for joint Microbiology, Virology, Infectious Diseases and General Medicine trainees on RCPath and JRCPTB schemes, and for Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Pharmacist independent prescribing candidates. 

In 2017 he returned to Dublin taking up a post as Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Senior Lecturer at Beaumont Hospital / RCSI.  Research interests include Tropical Medicine, vaccine development, TB, resource limited acute care, OPAT and antimicrobial prescribing.

Dr. Armstrong is Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Neurological Surgery with Tenure at the University of Southern California. Dr. Armstrong holds a Master of Science in Tissue Repair and Wound Healing from the University of Wales College of Medicine and a PhD from the University of Manchester College of Medicine, where he was appointed Visiting Professor of Medicine. He is founder and co-Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA).

Dr. Armstrong has produced more than 770 peer-reviewed research papers in dozens of scholarly medical journals as well as over 120 books or book chapters. He is founding co- Editor of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Clinical Care of the Diabetic Foot, now in its fourth edition.

Armstrong is Director of USC’s National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHiP) which places him at the nexus of the merger of consumer electronics, wearables, and medical devices in an effort to maximize hospital-free and activity-rich days. 

Dr. Armstrong was selected as one of the first six International Wound Care Ambassadors and is the recipient of numerous awards and degrees by universities and international medical organizations including the inaugural Georgetown Distinguished Award for Diabetic Limb Salvage. In 2008, he was the 25th and youngest-ever member elected to the Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame. He was the first surgeon to be appointed University Distinguished Outreach Professor at the University of Arizona. He was also the first podiatric surgeon to be selected as President of Faculty at Keck School of Medicine of USC. Furthermore, he was the first podiatric surgeon to become a member of the Society of Vascular Surgery, and the first US podiatric surgeon named fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow. He is the 2010 and youngest ever recipient of both the ADA’s Roger Pecoraro Award and 2023 recipient of the ISDF’s Karel Bakker Award, the highest awards given in the field.

 Dr. Armstrong is past Chair of Scientific Sessions for the ADA’s Foot Care Council, and a past member of the National Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Armstrong is the founder and co-chair of the International Diabetic Foot Conference (DF-Con), the largest annual international symposium on the diabetic foot in the world. He is also the Founding President of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS), a medical and surgical society dedicated to building interdisciplinary teams to eliminate preventable amputation in the USA and worldwide.

Mr Rashid is a consultant vascular surgeon who originally graduated from Cairo University. He trained in the UK and was then appointed in 2001 as a consultant vascular surgeon at King’s College Hospital in London Uk. After 20 years at King’s he moved to Kuwait to help build a specialised vascular service in Jaber AlAhmed Hospital in 2021. He has specialised in PAD disease especially in diabetic patients requiring complex revascularisation.

Dr. Michael Lockhart is an Integrated Care Consultant Endocrinologist in St. Luke’s General Hospital Carlow/Kilkenny and CHO5. As well as working clinically, he is also undertaking a Medical Doctorate degree with the University of Galway in the area of Digital Health in the Prevention of Diabetic Foot Ulceration. He has previously worked in a national role as Programme Manager for the National Clinical Programme for Diabetes, and is a member of the steering group for the National Diabetes Policy & Services Review. He is an Undergraduate Dean and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the School of Medicine in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

Michael is passionate about the prevention of the complications of Diabetes Mellitus, with a subspecialty interest in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot disease, chronic disease management and digital health.

Mr Ramy Elkady

Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Mr Ramy Elkady FRCSI (Vasc) MSc MRCS (Eng) MB BCh is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with a specialist interest in diabetic foot salvage and amputation prevention. His clinical and academic work focuses on improving outcomes for patients with complex diabetic foot disease through multidisciplinary approaches and evidence-based practice.

Mr Elkady has contributed to the literature on multidisciplinary diabetic foot management and recently published a scoping review on the role of Cerament G/V in diabetic foot management in The Surgeon (Elsevier). In addition to his research activities, he is a faculty member on an annual cadaveric course in diabetic foot reconstruction, working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing limb salvage techniques.

His work reflects a strong commitment to innovation, education, and improving patient care in high-risk vascular populations.

Dr Adam Isaac

Podiatric Surgeon, Kaiser Permanente/ Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, Largo, MD

Dr. Isaac is a Podiatric Surgeon with Kaiser Permanente/Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (Largo, Maryland). He graduated from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and completed a residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (RWJBarnabas Health, Livingston, New Jersey). Dr. Isaac completed a fellowship in Wound Healing and Amputation Prevention at the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) / University of Arizona (Tucson, Arizona), under the direction of Professor David G. Armstrong. He has produced dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles, reviews and textbook chapters. Dr. Isaac is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and member of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS) and American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).

Mr Madhu Tiruveedhula

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Basildon Hospital, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, UK

Mr Madhu Tiruveedhula is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Basildon Hospital, specialising in Adult Foot and Ankle Surgery, with particular expertise in Diabetic Foot Reconstruction and Paediatric Orthopaedics. 

A major focus of his work is the prevention and surgical management of diabetic foot complications. He is actively involved in education and training through the organisation of teaching programmes, cadaveric workshops, and specialist reconstruction courses. Mr Tiruveedhula has delivered webinars and spoken at both national and international diabetic foot conferences. He organised Diabetic Foot Reconstruction Cadaveric Workshops for vascular surgeons in July 2025, and for orthopaedic surgeons in Cambridge, UK, in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. He also organised the 9th Annual International Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons (IADFS) Conference in November 2023. 

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Tiruveedhula is actively involved in clinical research, with a particular interest in clinical outcomes following diabetic foot reconstruction. His work reflects a strong commitment to patient care, education, and advancing the field of orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery.

Dr Marta Lobato

Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Hospital Universitario de Cruces, Bilbao, Spain

Dr. Lobato has been a Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Hospital Universitario de Cruces (Bilbao, Spain) since 2010. Her department is recognized as a leading unit in the endovascular management of Critical Limb Threatening Ischemia (CLTI), particularly in the below-the-knee (BTK) and below-the-ankle (BTA) segments. She developed her Vascular Fellowship Programme at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (Madrid) and furthered her training with short-term placements at Hospital du Nord in Saint-Étienne (France), UniversitätsSpital Zürich (Switzerland), and St. Franziskus Hospital Münster (Germany).

Over the past decade, Dr. Lobato has focused primarily on endovascular treatment of the lower limb, routinely performing complex chronic total occlusion (CTO) revascularizations, including various bidirectional access techniques, transcollateral approaches, plantar loop creation, and venous arterialization. Since 2024, she has served as a reviewer for the Critical Limb Ischemia Journal, Journal of Endovascular Therapy, and Annals of Vascular Surgery. Her unit has presented multiple communications at well-recognized international symposiums and has published numerous papers in leading journals within her specialty.

Additionally, Dr. Lobato is the Co-director of the BTK-BTA Unit and is responsible for CLTI workshops at her institution. She is a member of the Diabetic Foot Working Group of the Spanish Society of Angiology and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (SEACV), actively participating in initiatives to improve the prevention and management of diabetic foot in Spain (seacv.es).
